U.S. Route 191 is a north-south United States highway that runs for 1,465 miles through the states of Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico. The highway was commissioned in 1926 and was originally designated as U.S. Route 91. In the early 1930s, the highway was renumbered as U.S. Route 191 to avoid confusion with State Route 91 in California.
U.S. Route 191 runs from the border between Montana and Wyoming south to the border between Arizona and Mexico, passing through several national parks and other areas of natural beauty along the way. It is a major transportation corridor in the western United States, serving as a link between the northern and southern parts of the region.
Throughout its history, U.S. Route 191 has undergone various changes and improvements. In the 1950s and 1960s, several sections of the highway were realigned or upgraded to meet the needs of an expanding transportation network. In recent years, there have been efforts to improve the safety and reliability of the highway, including the construction of new bridges and the rehabilitation of existing ones.
